DIY Skeleton Hand Jewelry Holder
Okay, so I just want to say that I have been waiting FOREVER to do this project. I initially found this skeleton hand jewelry holder on Modcloth in like, May, and was so enamored with it. But it's $40, which just seems stupidly expensive when I knew I could wait until Halloween and buy a skeleton hand for a few bucks. So friends, that's exactly what I did.
Honestly, this DIY project couldn't be easier. It's literally just gluing a hand to a dish. I made it a bit more complex for myself by making some alterations that I'll explain later.
It's perfect for Halloween or all year round if you're like me and take your home decor inspiration from Morticia Addams.
- A plastic skeleton hand (I got this from Target for $3)
- A small dish or saucer (one from the dollar store or a thrift shop will do)
- Hot glue or super glue
- Paint (optional)
Since the base of this skeleton hand was uneven, I took a small hacksaw and sliced off the end so the "bone" fragments were even and flat. And since I wasn't a fan of the "realistic" shading and coloring of the hand, I gave it a couple coats of white paint.
Once that was done, I simply hot glued it to the base. Make sure you hold it in place for a minute or so, that way it doesn't topple over immediately. If you're using super glue, you may need to hold it for longer.
And honestly, that's it! It looks awesome with some of my jewels draped over it. And it's a hand-y place for rings. Get it? I'm sorry.
(Side note, I just got this gorgeous moon pendant from Layered and Long and I'm absolutely obsessed with it.)
