How to Create a Beautiful Brand on a Budget

If you've spent much time on my site in the past couple years, you've probably seen me talk at length about the importance of creating and building a unique brand around your blog or business. In fact, even if you don't plan to become a full-time blogger or creative entrepreneur, having a beautiful brand for your blog is the best one of the best ways to build your audience and achieve success. But branding is something that can get expensive in a hurry - however, with a bit of creativity and penny pinching, there are plenty of ways to create a kick ass brand that won't break the bank. If you're just starting out, or ready for a refresh, it might not be within your capabilities to hire a designer or teach yourself Photoshop.

Never fear: I'm here to share some tips and tricks about branding on a budget, so you can get a legit brand in no time!

Keep it simple

While it may seem like you need to go ALL OUT with your branding, or a new site template, it's often better to keep it simple and clean. Especially if you want to DIY your branding or logo. Clean, minimalistic design is a great way to make your site look sleek and professional immediately.

Search for minimalistic free or inexpensive templates (Station Seven has some great ones!) or use a simple, text-based logo for your site header.

Get a pre-made branding kit

If you want a logo or brand design with a bit more pizazz, but can't shell out thousands for a custom design, you might want to look into pre-made logo and branding kits! There are TONS of options out there, and it's a great way to get a professional looking brand for minimal time, effort and moolah.

And in fact, it's your lucky day - because the October June Design Shop has officially opened for business! Our Build-a-Brand kits have everything you need to build a beautiful brand in minutes, and we'll be adding more styles daily!

Don't wait for perfection

It can be tempting to make sure everything looks totally perfect before launching your blog or business, but I'm here to tell you that it's only holding you back.

If you wait until you can afford a several-thousand-dollar site design or rebrand, you're never going to get your name out there and start growing or finding clients... which means you'll likely never be able to afford that pricey design.

Use your words

Branding isn't always just pretty logos and graphics. Everything you write on your site, from blog posts to home page copy or product descriptions can and should enhance your brand. It may be tempting to just slap some words up on a page for your "About Me" section, but instead, take some time to think about how you can truly embody and enhance your brand message.

Even social media posts should be saturated with your brand, so that when people see any of your content, they know immediately that it's you, even if you don't have all the flashy graphics.

Pick a brand color palette

One of the easiest ways to quickly and easily boost your brand identity is to choose a color palette of one or two colors to use throughout your website, social media, branding collateral, etc. As you can obviously tell, my brand color is the pink that you see all over my site. Using that, and variations of that, makes everything look cohesive, planned out, and like it works together. With literally zero effort on my part. Easy peasy!

Find free resources

Another way to create a beautiful brand on the cheap is to find free resources, like fonts, graphics, templates, etc. The best and easiest way to find these is just to search Pinterest - it's a gold mine of free blogging resources. Another great way is to search Creative Market. They give away 6 free resources every week, which range from graphics to fonts to Wordpress templates and so on.
