How to Create a Cozy Home
Home is where the heart is, right? So it's important to create a comfortable and cozy environment to relax and unwind in. Especially if you're a massive introvert-bordering-on-hermit like myself, and you basically never leave your house.
Ever since I got my first real apartment nearly five years ago, I've really grown to love decorating and designing my own space (thank you, Target home decor section).
So today I'm sharing some of my favorite tips for creating a warm, cozy and inviting home.
I think we can all agree that string lights are basically the epitome of coziness. I love to drape them over windows, beds and couches especially. It's such a perfect way to add a warm, comfy glow to any (and every) room. Pro-tip: don't get LED lights. Maybe this is a personal preference but they always are so much brighter and colder and just stress me out more than anything.
Candles are the perfect double-whammy of warm glowy lights and delicious scents. Making your home smell nice is a one-way ticket to coziness. I remember when I was in 6th grade, I had this one particular teacher who always had a plugin air freshener going. Her classroom always smelled like warm vanilla sugar, and I was so obsessed with it. I remember thinking how I couldn't wait to have my own space so I could get an air freshener and make it smell like vanilla and cinnamon.
This is also a big part of the reason I hoard the "fall scented" candles and plugins from Bath and Body Works every year, but I digress. If you don't want to worry about candles and open flames around kids, pets or your drunk friends (I've been to college, I understand) then try a wax warmer or a plugin air freshener.
Blankets & Pillows
I think a lot about how bored my younger self would be with knowing how much I love to buy blankets and throw pillows. Like, it's a sickness. I want every pillow at Target right now but we currently have pillows on every surface in our home and can fit no more. I also compulsively purchase blankets and the closet is quickly filling up with them.
But seriously, piles of comfy pillows and soft blankets will instantly elevate your room to cozy perfection.
Adding some greenery to your space will freshen it up and make it feel super homey. I'm still learning how not to be a plant serial killer (and to be honest my boyfriend does most of the work) but I love having a touch of nature in here.
If you're worried about forgetting to water your plants, start small with succulents, air plants and cacti. Not only are they super trendy and Instagrammable now, but they require little to no effort. And if you have pets, be sure to research which plants may or may not be harmful to them! A lot of common house plants are toxic to dogs and cats if ingested.
